The first word in this writing is Apocalypse, which is a Greek word usually translated into English as "revelation" and it refers to something that is uncovered or revealed, as though removing a veil to expose what had previously been hidden. This word is only written once by John in this writing, which contains various revelations about many events and prophecies constituting the whole book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ - the apocalypse.
John was one of Jesus' learning-disciples (students), and as we read, we will clearly see that the Lord Jesus Christ revealed this prophetic information to John so that...
...will be able to read and understand what the Lord Jesus Christ is doing now and what he will do in the future with reference to the realm of mankind and the spirit realm.
The following is a summary of the effects or events that take place from John’s viewpoint as he receives the revelation covering the last days and the end of the world as we know it today - the end times.
John introduces this writing (book) with an explanation of where the information originated from. It is the Revelation of Jesus Christ (the information that has been uncovered or revealed pertaining-to and proceeding-from Jesus Christ)...
...and Jesus Christ signified (gave the signal or sign) - how? - as follows...
John wrote this writing which is prophecy - information originally from God via Jesus Christ concerning the past, present and/or future, which John received to speak-forth to people and which he wrote down in this writing.
Happy is the person who is reading and the people who are hearing the words of the prophecy, and keeping (observing) the things that are written in the prophecy of this writing. Why? In truth, the specific time detailed in this writing is close.
Several of the events prophesied have already occurred, and the judgments prophesied to/for the angels and their churches by the Lord Jesus Christ have been implemented - but the final judgment and implementation is still future to us today, as recorded in Revelation chapters 19 and 20.
John addresses this writing to the seven churches in Asia. He greets them with grace and peace from God, and from the seven spirits which are in the sight and presence of God's throne, and from...
The Lord Jesus Christ is coming with the clouds and every eye will see him, and the people who stabbed him, and all the tribes/clans of the earth will demonstrate their extreme grief on account of him.
The Lord God says that He is...
John was in the island called Patmos in the Aegean sea and he received this revelation via his holy spirit-life relative to the period of time when the action associated with the Lord Jesus Christ is occurring – the Lordly day when the Lord Jesus Christ is exercising his rulership, glory, and strongness (this phrase is not referring to "Sunday").
John is told that what he observes by revelation he must send to the 7 churches in the west area of Asia Minor (modern Turkey) - into Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamos, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea.
John describes the Lord Jesus Christ as he saw him in this revelation and Jesus explains to John that he is living (alive) and that he now has the keys of the death and the gravedom. He also explains that the mystery (secret) of the seven stars which John saw on Jesus' right hand and the 7 golden lamp-stands is as follows:
Then in chapters 2 and 3, John writes the information for the 7 angels of the 7 churches. Complete
John continues writing about events occurring during the past, the present, and the future - but in chapters 4 and 5 the events take place in heaven (not on earth as chapters 2 and 3).
John saw a door that was opened in the heaven and a throne lying there, and God was sitting down on this throne. He writes many other details including that around God's throne he saw twenty four (24) thrones with twenty four elders sitting down. Also there were four living-beings full of eyes in front and behind and were like a lion, a calf, the face as a man, and a flying eagle.
Revelation chapter 5 continues with John seeing a book that was written on both sides (front and back) and it was sealed with seven seals on the right hand of God sitting down on the throne. These 7 different seals were ensuring that the book is secure and only opened by the one who is authorized to open the seals.
John then saw a strong angel proclaiming loudly: "Who is worthy to open the book and to loose (unbind, unfasten, release, untie) its seals?" However, during that period of time nobody (no animal, bird, etc, human, or spirit) had the capability to open the book nor to contemplate its contents.
Next, John perceived in the middle of the throne and the four living-beings, and in the middle of the elders...
...and the little lamb came and took the book from the right hand of God Who is sitting down on the throne.
The usage of the word "little-lamb" when referring to the Lord Jesus Christ by John emphasizes the viewpoint of the man (Jesus) carrying out God's requirements during his life, including his sacrifice and his resurrection, in order to reach and attain the victory of redemption and salvation.
When the little lamb took the book - the four living-beings and the twenty four elders fell down in the sight and presence of the little lamb and they sang a new song.
Then John saw and heard a lot of angels all around the throne and the living-beings and the elders saying loudly that the little lamb who was slaughtered, is worthy to take the ability and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing.
John includes additional revelation regarding what he heard and what the 4 living-beings and the elders did.
The details written in Revelation 6:1 - 7:8 pertain to effects or events taking place on earth as a result-of and corresponding-to the previous events which took place in heaven (refer to Revelation chapters 4 and 5).
As the little lamb, which is representing the Lord Jesus Christ, opens the seals - John sees different pictures, images, etc, (similar to watching a movie, a panoramic view) showing and declaring the various phases of the future implementation of God's wrath as a result of His righteous judgment.
Six seals are opened in close succession - but the seventh seal is not opened until Revelation 8:1 during the great pressure or tribulation of the completing together of the age.
After seeing the effects of the opening of the sixth seal, John saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth (the directions of east, west, north, and south) exerting their forceful-strength holding the four winds. Then another angel told them not to treat the earth neither the sea nor the trees unrighteously - until the slaves of God are sealed on their foreheads. John heard the amount of the slaves who are sealed - a hundred forty four thousands (144,000) from every tribe of the sons of Israel:
Revelation 7:9 changes to John writing about events which take place in heaven (not on earth as chapter 6 and 7:1-8 above).
Revelation 7:9-17 records what John saw regarding the future outcome for all the people who will be saved by God and by the Lord Jesus Christ (not only the descendants of Israel/Jacob).
Revelation chapter 8 begins with the opening of the seventh (7) seal of the book in heaven by the little lamb which is representing the Lord Jesus Christ. This takes place after the 144,000 people were sealed. John writes that at whatever time the little lamb opened the seventh seal there became silence in the heaven for the length of time of about half an hour.
And an angel stood upon the sacrificial-altar having a golden censer and a lot of incense relative to the prayers of the holy-people. Then the angel took the censer and he filled it from the fire of the sacrificial-altar and he threw it into the earth; and there became thunders and sounds and lightnings and quakes. The time of the completing together of the age, which includes judgment, will occur quickly in response to the prayers of God's people.
The details written in Revelation 8:7 - 11:14 pertain to effects or events taking place on earth as a result-of and corresponding-to the previous events which took place in heaven (refer to Revelation 7:9 - 8:6).
The first 4 angels blew their trumpets which cause effects on one-third of trees and grass, and one-third of the sea including the creatures and the ships, and a star called Wormwood causes the the waters to be so bitter as to cause a lot of mankind to die, and one-third of the sun and one-third of the moon and one-third of the stars were affected with respect to light and darkness.
The effects or events following the last 3 angels blowing their trumpets will be especially woeful for the recipients.
The first woe spans from Revelation 9:1-11. The fifth angel blew his trumpet; and John saw a star that has fallen out from heaven into the earth. This star previously fell and it remains in its fallen state - figuratively referring to the devil/satan who was a beautiful angel before he chose to reject the only true God. Also the key of the well of the abyss was given to the fifth angel and he opened the well of the abyss. Smoke came upwards, and darkness, and locusts will affect mankind for five months. The effects of the locusts will not result in death even though those affected will be so tormented that they will seek after death and intensely yearn to die.
The second woe spans from Revelation 9:13 to 11:13. The sixth angel blew his trumpet; and John heard one sound from the horns of the golden sacrificial-altar (on which incense is burned) saying to the sixth angel who has the trumpet that he must release the four angels who were previously bound on the great river called Euphrates. These angels were prepared to kill one-third of the population of mankind (this excludes the 144,000 people who were sealed in Revelation 7:2-8) via the companies of soldiers on horses amounting to 200 million. The people who were not killed at this time did not repent (they did not change their minds from bad to good regarding God and the things of God after re-thinking what God said).
In Revelation chapter 10 John includes information about another angel who was inherently strong and he placed his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the earth. When the seven thunders made their sound John was on the point of writing those things (John understood what they said) and he heard a voice coming from heaven telling him that he must seal the things that the seven thunders spoke - do not write them.
And the angel whom John perceived standing on the sea and on the earth lifted his right hand into the heaven, and he swore that there will be no more delay for the implementation of judgments - but it will be during the days pertaining to the sound of the seventh angel blowing his trumpet. John includes revelation about the angel giving him a little book and how it affected him.
In Revelation 11:1-14 John specifically writes according to the instructions he received in Revelation 10:11. Also, a reed was given to John by the angel telling him to measure the interior-temple of God, etc - but to omit the uncovered area that is on the outside because it was given to the nations (those who reject the only true God and His son, the Lord Jesus Christ) and they will tread the holy city (referring to Jerusalem on earth) forty two months (42 months = 3½ years).
God will have two witnesses who will prophesy a thousand two-hundred sixty days (1,260 days = 42 months = 3½ years) clothed with sackcloth.
However, after the 3½ days the spirit of life originating from God went into the 2 witnesses who had died and they stood on their feet. Also, there became a great quake and the tenth of the city collapsed) and 7,000 various people were killed in the quake.
Revelation 11:15-19(a) records what John saw regarding the events that will take place in heaven (not on earth as Revelation 8:7 - 11:14).
The seventh angel blew his trumpet and Revelation 11:15(b)-18 reveal the celebration of the future results of the effects and events that will follow the 7th angel blowing his trumpet.
There became a great sound in the heaven saying...
And the twenty four elders in the sight and presence of God who are sitting down on their thrones fell down flat on their faces and worshipped God. Also, the interior-temple of God in the heaven opened, and the ark of His covenant was seen.
There became lightnings and sounds and thunders and quakes and large hailstone.
Revelation 12:1-12 records what John saw regarding the events that take place in heaven (not on earth as Revelation 11:19(b)). These verses continue to reveal the full scope of redemption and salvation that is written in the stars and the constellations.
A great sign (a large sign in magnitude) was seen in the heaven...
And there was seen another sign in the heaven...
And the dragon stood against the woman to devour her child. And the woman brought forth a son (referring to Jesus the Christ) who is on the point of shepherding all the nations within the sphere of action of an iron rod. And her child was caught-away towards God and towards His throne (the Lord Jesus Christ is now seated at the right-hand side of God's throne). And the woman fled into the desert where she has in that area a location prepared by God for the purpose and result that there they may nourish her for a thousand two-hundred sixty days (1,260 days = 42 months = 3½ years).
Also, a war came to pass within the heaven (it did not happen on earth). John writes some details of this war in the heaven:
In Revelation 12:10 and 11 John records what he saw regarding the future celebration of the descendants of Israel/Jacob who will be saved by God and by the Lord Jesus Christ having lived their lives on earth during the wrath. They will celebrate on behalf of their brothers who lived and died during the old covenant times prior to Acts chapter 2.
The details written in Revelation 12:13 - 13:18 pertain to effects or events taking place on earth as a result-of and corresponding-to the previous events which took place in heaven (refer to Revelation 12:1-12).
When the dragon perceived that he was cast into the earth (expelled from the heaven) he persecuted the woman who gave birth to the male (in this context referring only to the members of God's people who are descendants of Israel/Jacob - Judeans/Israelites). And there was given to the woman 2 wings of the great eagle, for the purpose and result that she would use these 2 wings by flying into the desert to the place that God prepared for her where she is nourished there a time and times and a half of time (for the duration covering specific seasons of time, which are 1 + 2 + half - referring to the 3½ years) away from the presence of the snake.
And the snake tried to kill the woman with water but the earth/land came to help the woman and the earth opened her mouth and swallowed the river which the dragon cast out from his mouth. Then the dragon was caused wrath against the woman and he went away to make war against the rest of the seed of the "woman" who represents all of God's people who are part of fallen mankind, specifically those who are keeping the commandments of God and having the witness of/from Jesus.
And the dragon was caused to stand on the sand of the sea (the seashore) and John saw...
John explains many details about this first wild-animal who is against or anti Christ, although John does not use the words "the antichrist" to describe him in this writing, but it will be an opponent of Christ. However, there are many antichrists during the present time as John indicates in his writings of I John 2:18 and 22, 4:3; and II John 1:7.
During the last 3½ years prior to Christ's coming on earth again, this wild-animal will look as though it were a human-being promoting itself as a great political leader, but in fact it will be a product of the devil/satan taking the place of the human-being who will be the 7th head who will rise to power during the first 3½ years and will be killed. This wild-animal will seem to be a resurrected man but will be similar to the genetically deformed evil beings referred to in Genesis 6:1-7 and Jude 1:6 and 7.
And John saw...
This second wild-animal is the same one also known as the lying/false prophet referred to in Revelation 16:13, 19:20, and 20:10. It promotes itself as a religious leader.
The number of the wild-animal is the number of man (a human-being, mankind), and its number six-hundred sixty six (666 - six six six).
Revelation 14:1-5 records what John saw regarding the events that take place in heaven (not on earth as Revelation 12:13 - 13:18).
John saw the little lamb (referring to the Lord Jesus Christ) standing on the mountain of Sion (Mount Zion) and with him are a hundred forty four thousands (referring to the 144,000 people from every tribe of the sons of Israel who were sealed in Revelation 7:2-8 prior to the opening of the 7th seal of the book)...
And the 144,000 people sing a new song in the sight and presence of God's throne and in the sight and presence of the four living-beings and the elders. During that period of time no-one had the capability to learn the song except the hundred forty four thousands.
The details written in Revelation 14:6-20 pertain to effects or events taking place on earth as a result-of and corresponding-to the previous events which took place in heaven (refer to Revelation 14:1-5).
John saw another angel who was in a flying motion in mid-heaven (the location directly overhead) having the eternal good-message (the gospel, the evangel that is agelong) to preach it to the people who are sitting down on the earth, saying in a great voice...
This will be the final time that those people who will have continued to reject God up to this point will be given the opportunity to become saved to God, from sin and its consequences, from destruction. They must fear God and worship Him (not the wild-animals and the devil/satan referred to in Revelation chapter 13).
Another angel came saying, "It fell, fell (it collapsed) - Babylon the great (large in importance, magnitude, degree, quality, eminence on earth). In what respect was it great?
John also includes revelation about a white cloud and one sitting down similar to a son of man who harvests the earth, reaping it with a sharp sickle, plus another harvest which is cast into the large trough of the rage of God. And the trough was trodden outside of the city of Jerusalem and blood went out from the trough.
Revelation 15:1-8 records what John saw regarding the events that take place in heaven (not on earth as Revelation 14:6-20). It corresponds to Revelation 11:15-19(a) when the seventh angel blew his trumpet and prepares for the implementation of the third woe on earth.
John saw another sign in the heaven great and marvelous (astonishing, wonderful and amazing):
John also includes revelation about the people being victorious from the wild-animal and from its image and from the number of its name, etc, plus the fact that they sing the song of Moses the slave of God and the song of the little lamb. After John saw those events, the interior-temple of the tent of the witness located in the heaven was opened and one from the four living-beings gave to the seven angels seven golden bowls (7 broad and flat vials made of/with gold) being full of the rage of the living God into the ages of the ages.
The details written in Revelation 16:1 - 18:24 pertain to effects or events taking place on earth as a result-of and corresponding-to the previous events which took place in heaven (refer to Revelation 15:1-8). It records the implementation of the third woe on earth following the 7th angel blowing his trumpet in Revelation 11:15.
Six angels poured out the contents of their bowls and affected the people who were rejecting God in various ways, including the drying up of the Euphrates river for the purpose and result that the way (road) of the kings from the east would be prepared.
And John saw three unclean spirits as frogs coming out-from the mouths of the dragon and the first wild-animal and the lying-prophet (the second wild-animal). These 3 unclean spirits journey on the kings (on the human-beings who rule portions of the earth) to assemble them together with a view to the war (battle) of the great day of God (God's great day when He implements His final judgments) the All-Strong-One.
God's Word returns to the activities of the devil and his 2 wild animals. The 3 devil-spirits assembled the kings of the whole inhabited area together into the place that is being called in the Hebrew language Armagedon (or spelled Armageddon).
And the seventh angel shed forth the contents of his bowl down on the air (where the devil and his devil spirits roam at this time; refer to Revelation 12:7-12) and a great sound went out from the throne inside the interior-temple (from God Himself) saying...
Many things occur at that future time affecting the earth and mankind, including Jerusalem and Babylon (the center of idolatry exercising the devil's lie and power). Revelation chapters 17 and 18 provide additional revelation regarding the interaction and fall of the wild-animal and Babylon referred to in Revelation 14:8 and 16:19.
The angel gave John details explaining the mystery of the woman and of the wild-animal that is lifting her up and which has the seven heads and the ten horns.
Revelation 19:1-16 records what John saw regarding the events that take place in heaven (not on earth as Revelation 16:1 - 18:24).
After the things already described in this writing, John heard as a great sound of a crowd of people in the heaven praising God because of the destruction of Babylon. The effects on the physical city of Babylon will cause corresponding effects on those interacting with her, including the city of Jerusalem. The effects on the spirit realm associated with the city of Babylon, which is the devil/satan/serpent's realm of operation, will also cause corresponding effects on that spirit realm.
The twenty four elders and the four living-beings fell down and worshipped God Who is sitting down on the throne. And a sound from God's throne went out telling others to praise God. Then John heard as a sound of a big crowd praising God and he details the words used.
The angel who was revealing this revelation to John says...
The angel also told John to worship God and then John saw the heaven open and a white horse and the one sitting down on the horse (referring to the Lord Jesus Christ) being called the believer and true-one, and in righteousness he judges and wars (he actively battles, makes war).
John writes additional information regarding the rider of this white horse including the fact that on his thigh is a name that has been written: King of kings and Lord of lords.
The details written in Revelation 19:17 - 20:15 pertain to effects or events taking place on earth as a result-of and corresponding-to the previous events which took place in heaven (refer to Revelation 19:1-16). It records the completion of the final judgments being implemented on earth following the blowing of the 7th trumpet with its 7 bowls.
John perceived the wild-animal (referring to the first wild-animal which came out from the abyss) and the kings of the earth and their companies of soldiers which had already been assembled together (refer to Revelation 16:12-16) for the purpose of making the war against the one sitting-down on the horse (against the Lord Jesus Christ) and against his company of soldiers. What was the result of this war?
The events described in this chapter correspond to many of the constellations - especially the sign of Leo which is the last/final one completing the pictures in the heavens written by God.
Revelation 20:1-3 continues with the effects of this war in relation to the spirit-beings opposing the Lord Jesus Christ and those with him. John saw an angel strongly holding the dragon - specifically referring to the old snake, who is the devil and satan. Then the angel bound the dragon for a thousand years (1,000 years, a millennium) and cast him into the abyss and he shut and sealed the abyss over him for the purpose and result that the dragon would not still cause the nations to wander until the thousand years would be completed.
But when the thousand years would be completed satan will be released out from his prison (the abyss), and he will exit for the purpose of causing the nations to wander in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, for the purpose of assembling them together into the war (the final battle that satan will organize against the Lord Jesus Christ on earth).
What happened? Fire descended out from heaven (fire came down from God) and devoured them (not allowing anyone to escape)...
John next saw a great white throne and God sitting down on it, from Whose presence the earth and the heaven fled and a location was not found for them (referring to the end of the present earth and heaven as we know it today, the end of the world).
John saw the dead-people standing in the sight and presence of the throne and books were opened and another book was opened which is the book of the life. The dead-people were judged from the things which were written in the books in accordance with their works (which they did during the time when they were alive and living their lives prior to their death). Death and gravedom were cast into the lake of fire, and if someone was not found written in the book of the life he was cast into the lake of the fire, thereby receiving the second death, complete destruction by burning in the lake of the fire.
John records information regarding the new heaven and the new earth - together. He saw...
And John saw the holy city - new Jerusalem...
John heard a great sound originating from the God's throne saying that the tent of God will be with mankind (human beings). God also said that He makes all new-things.
John writes many other details regarding God and the lake burning with fire and sulfur, and the bride who is the woman belonging to the little lamb (representing the Lord Jesus Christ). Also, the angel revealed to John details about the holy city - Jerusalem which descends from heaven from God - including that the wall of the city having twelve foundations, and on them are the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the little lamb.
Revelation 22:1-5 shows some similarities and differences between the original mankind in his environment (refer to Genesis chapters 1-3) and the new mankind in his new environment which will be the Paradise of God that will exist again on earth.
Also, the throne of God and of the little lamb will be within the city of the new Jerusalem on earth and God's slaves will render-service to Him.
John next writes the conclusion of this book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ. Revelation 22:6-21 corresponds to Revelation chapter 1.
This book is open to be read by all since it was first written by John in the first century. Everybody should know what is written in this book which reveals the outcome of all that God and the Lord Jesus Christ will accomplish in fulfillment of God's original promise regarding the Christ as recorded in Genesis 3:15.
John writes words that he hears, including words from God - the supreme ruling King to Whom all others will be subject following the Lord Jesus Christ finishing his tasks relative to what is recorded regarding mankind (refer also to I Corinthians 15:23-28 and Revelation 21:1 onwards).
Then John writes words that he hears from the Lord Jesus Christ...
The Lord Jesus Christ also says...
And John responds in agreement:
John began this writing with grace, and he closes it by expressing his prayerful desire:
(May) the grace of the Lord Jesus (be) with all-people.
